New York City Museums


New York City is one of the most famous and well known cities around the globe. It is also a home to many cultural
institutions like museum, art galleries, and many other things. New York City museums are one of the main tourist attractions. Museums are also divided into many genres like for children, adults, science, art,
history and many more here. So here goes a brief outline of famous NYC museums that you must visit if you visit the city.

The first is the American Museum of Moving Image. This museum is located at the former site of Astoria Studios. It is located on the Boroughs of the Queens in the New York City. Original name of this museum was Astoria Motion Picture and Television Center Foundation. Set up in the year 1977 the main aim of this museum is to educate the general public about history, art, technique and technology used in movies, television as well as digital media. Also the museum strives to study the impact of the aforementioned things on society and culture.

Another famous museum that you should not miss out is the American Folk Art Museum. It is the leading center for studying American Folk Art. Many International Artists also showcase their exhibitions every now and then here. Located in Midtown Manhattan this museum first opened the doors for general public on September 27, 1963.
Regarding collection the museum has the following- Flag Gate, Archangel Gabriel Weathervane, St. Tammany Weathervane, Bird of paradise Quilt Top, Girl in Red Dress with Cat and Dog and many more masterpieces.

One fine art museum that is very popular in New York City is the Bronx Museum of Arts. Founded in the year 1971 this museum tries to showcase works of different cultures and also work of under recognized artists which have special interest to the Bronx community. Although the museum started with modest beginnings it has done good
work over the time.

The only museum in the United States that is completely devoted to the exhibition as well as collection of European Academic Art of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries is the Dahesh Museum of Art. Named after the pen name of Lebanese writer, philosopher and humanist Saleem Moussa Ashi the museum has a collection of over 2000
paintings of Dahesh. The museum board has five members from Dahesh family itself. The museum during its opening years had to face a lot of problems but now it has an annual attendance of approximately 20,000 and also endowments up to the range of $30 million.

Apart from these there are other famous New York City Museums that you can visit. These are Museum of Natural History, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, Children’s Museum of Manhattan and many more.
